Web Site: Instructional Technology Department

As part of my duties as E-Learning Specialist at George Mason, I redesigned and developed the Instructional Technology department website.
Information and Enterprise Architecture
(a) One example of information architecture is evidenced by right side main menus. These are designed to flex vertically in order to accommodate future changes. (b) One complement I received about the information architecture came when a professor was able to help someone navigate the website over the phone. The clarity comes in the logical relationships in the hierarchy of links. (c) The navigation deeper into the web site is also informed by blog design. Paragraphs introduced web pages further in by the consistent use of the linked phrase "Learn More...". (d) An example of the enterprise architecture is not visually evident, but comes in the form of the MODx content management system that publishes the web site. The adoption of MODx by the College of Education and Human Development's technology office provided the organizational platform in which support staff would have adequate technical help beyond the development cycle. Positive evidence is seen in the continual maintenance of departmental current events.
Graphic Design Elements
(a) The color palette starts with the green of GMU colors (Header 1 font color, top main menu background). The light brown of the bottom main menu background was chosen to mimic the orange-brown glow of the sunset in the photograph. (b) The Georgia font is currently popular and browser supported font. The sizing is consistent with high quality Cascading Style Sheet practice.
